Frank O’Hara
These clips all come from my documentary Frank O’Hara: How Terrible Orange Is/& Life, made in 1995. Thanks to the enthusiastic support of O’Hara’s sister Maureen, without whom the film could never have been made, I was able to film a good number of writers & artists who were close to the poet, many of whom, sadly, died within a year or two of its completion.
The interviewees included O’Hara’s long-term partner Joe LeSueur, writer Patsy Southgate, poets Kenneth Koch, Michael McClure, Ann Lauterbach & Allen Ginsberg, & painters Alfred Leslie, Norman Bluhm, Larry Rivers & Mike Goldberg, whose work is the subject of the poem Why I am not a painter.
